Confirmation is the congregation’s pastoral ministry of support and nurture to youth. It’s “pastoral” – which doesn’t just mean it’s the pastor’s job.
It’s the congregations’ job. Christ the King promises in baptism that we would provide support, guidance, and resources for parents to bring their children up in the Christian faith.
It’s a ministry of support. Christ the King recognizes early adolescence as a time of tremendous physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth. Confirmation is how we offer youth a safe place to grow a questioning, maturing faith and to make friends in the community of faith. The support of peers and caring adults is vital to making this happen.
It’s a ministry of nurture. Confirmation students study the basics of faith – the ones we talk about when we baptize. We study God’s Word, the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments. Confirmation is a foundational building block for nurturing a maturing hardy faith in youth
All 7th and 8th graders are invited to participate in confirmation. Confirmation is a two year program which meets on Wednesday evenings during the school year. Students affirm their baptism (are confirmed) at the end of 8th grade.
This is NOT your parent’s confirmation class – no workbooks and lectures! We definitely have fun. Wednesday evening Theme Nights are the core experience of confirmation. We teach using the highly interactive Here We Stand curriculum which includes skits, humor, games, PowerPoint, music, video and – the most important curriculum of all – our relationships with each other and our world. We escape West Chester several times a year for exciting retreats at Camp Kern and Lutheran Memorial Camp
